Veryan and its five thatched round houses (built around 1810 to keep the devil out) sit two miles inland. Truro is 14 miles north; St Mawes 8 miles by road for the Falmouth ferry.

Best for couples or a small family wanting a working harbour and proper coast walks. Less good if you want shops, nightlife, or beach steps from the door - the nearest sand is a 10-minute drive.
