Cury Cross Lanes
Lizard crossroads village close to Mullion and the south coast
Cury Cross Lanes is a settlement at a road junction on the Lizard, about 5 miles south of Helston. It is not a traditional village centre but a cluster of properties at the crossing of the B3296 and nearby lanes, close to the village of Cury itself. The parish church of St Corentin at Cury is a Norman foundation with a carved font. The location puts it within easy reach of several south and west Lizard beaches.
Mullion Cove and Mullion village are about 2 miles west. Gunwalloe and Church Cove (a beach with a partly 13th-century church in the sand dunes) are about 2 miles south-west. Poldhu Cove, where Marconi made the first transatlantic wireless transmission in 1901, is about 2 miles south - a memorial and visitor information board mark the site. Helston, with its Flora Day tradition and full range of shops, is about 5 miles north.
The Lizard countryside around Cury is a mixture of farmland and the distinctive short heath of the serpentine plateau. The Lizard National Nature Reserve, which protects the unique flora of the serpentine rock, is accessible within a few miles. Holiday accommodation here is in farm cottages and rural properties, used as a base for the western Lizard coast.
