Mevagissey is one of the few working fishing harbours still commercially active in Cornwall. The inner harbour, about 100 metres away, still sees daily catches brought in. The village has an aquarium, a museum covering the local pilchard and mackerel trade, several pubs, and a range of cafes and fish restaurants clustered along the harbourfront.

Pentewan Beach is 2.2km north along the B3273 - a long sandy beach backed by the Pentewan Stream, with a large holiday park and seasonal facilities. Gorran Haven, a quieter south-facing sandy beach in a small village, is 3.3km south. Hemmick Beach, a narrow cove used mainly by locals, is 4.9km. Wi-Fi, off-road parking, and a washing machine are all included; no dishwasher.
