The Hurlers, a set of three Bronze Age stone circles on the moor above Saint Cleer, is accessible on foot from the village - one of the more complete ancient monument groups in Cornwall. The Cheesewring, a stack of granite tor formations above the circles, is an additional short walk. Both are free to visit.

Liskeard town centre is around 2 miles south. It has a mainline rail station with services to Plymouth and London Paddington, which makes this a workable base without a car for day trips. The town has a weekly market and a good range of independent cafes and pubs.

The south coast beaches - Downderry, Plaidy, and East Looe - are 16-17km away by road through the Looe Valley, taking around 20 minutes in quiet traffic. This is inland countryside rather than a beach base; the emphasis is on moorland walking, quiet village life, and convenient rail access.
