The townhouse layout puts bedrooms across the upper floors and a sitting room with open fire on the entry level, with a second living space and dining area. Three bathrooms make it workable for two families travelling together, and at GBP 575 a night for nine that's GBP 64pp/night in peak weeks. Wifi, dishwasher, washing machine, enclosed garden. Dogs are welcome. The accessible entry helps for guests who can't manage steep village lanes.

Kingsand and Cawsand are colour-washed twin villages sharing one harbour on the Rame Peninsula - "Cornwall's forgotten corner" - and the Cawsand-Kingsand stream marked the historic Devon-Cornwall boundary until 1844. Cawsand Beach is 300m round the seafront, and the passenger ferry to Plymouth Barbican sails from there Easter to October. Mount Edgcumbe Country Park's 800 acres of formal gardens and deer park sit a mile north; Whitsand Bay's three-mile cliff beach is 5.6km south-west.

Best for two families or a multigenerational group wanting a Georgian house in a walkable harbour village. Less good for buggies and small children - it's a townhouse with steep stairs between floors.
