Nightingale Cottage

Nightingale Cottage is a barn conversion at Higher Penhole Farm, East Taphouse, sleeping two in one king-size bedroom. The setting is rural mid-Cornwall, roughly equidistant between Lostwithiel and Liskeard, with farmland on all sides and no immediate neighbours.

The open-plan interior has an open fire and underfloor heating - both matter in shoulder season when the Cornish coast turns damp and cool even in June. A dishwasher and washing machine are included. Three beaches on the south coast lie within 12km: Lansallos at 10.6km, Talland Bay at 11km, and East Looe Beach at 11.4km. Lansallos is a National Trust cove with a steep footpath approach and no facilities - a deliberate trade-off that keeps it quiet. Talland Bay is smaller and rockier, good for snorkelling. Lostwithiel, 8km west, is a small market town useful for provisions, and a reasonable base for exploring the Fowey estuary by kayak.

Best for couples wanting a quiet inland retreat with reliable beach access a short drive south. Less good for those without a car - East Taphouse village has no shops, and everything practical requires driving.
