Carbis Bay railway station is a 5-minute walk for the branch-line train to St Ives, a 3-minute coastal run that's one of the prettiest short journeys in Britain. Porthminster Beach Cafe is 2.1 km along the coast path. For longer walks, head west past Lelant church into the Hayle Estuary RSPB reserve.

Best for a couple wanting a low-key Carbis Bay base with the coast path on the doorstep, easy rail into St Ives, and the hotel spa nearby. Less good for families, larger groups, or anyone needing a separate second bedroom.
