Priest Cove

Tidal Pools in penzance

Rocky tidal pool near Penzance with Victorian mining ruins, wildflower-covered sheds, and seabird-filled Brisons Rocks. National Trust managed.

Wild and rugged, Priest Cove is distinctively Cornish: a rocky beach with the remains of the Victorian mining industry and fishermen’s sheds overgrown by wildflowers. Part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, this tidal pool is owned and maintained by the National Trust and has been sculpted by the full force of the wild Atlantic. In the bend of the Cape, surrounded by its towering cliffs, is Priest Cove, a little fishing bay with a charming slipway. The Brisons Rocks, commonly referred to as ‘General de Gaulle in his bath,’ are a haven for a variety of seabirds, while a small artificial tidal pool has been constructed among the rocks offshore.
