Talland Bay
Sheltered twin coves between Looe and Polperro
Talland Bay sits on the south Cornwall coast midway between Looe and Polperro, accessed by a narrow lane that drops steeply to a small car park above the beach. Two small shingle-and-sand beaches are divided by a rocky outcrop, with rock pools and sheltered swimming. The Talland Bay Beach Cafe overlooks the coves and serves food through the season. The 13th-century church of St Tallan stands on the hillside above, partially hidden by trees.
The coast path section between Looe and Polperro passes through Talland Bay and is one of the more manageable stretches on the south coast - about 5 miles total with moderate elevation changes. Both towns have pubs, restaurants, and harbours worth the walk. The bay itself is a regular spot for kayakers and snorkellers, with clear water and a south-facing aspect that catches afternoon sun.
Holiday properties around Talland Bay tend to be converted farmhouses and cottages set back from the coast. The nearest shops are in Looe (2.5 miles east) or Polperro (2.5 miles west). Looe has a mainline rail connection via the Looe Valley Line to Liskeard. The bay is quieter than either neighbouring town and works well for visitors who prefer a rural coastal setting over a harbour village.
