Paul
Hillside village commemorating the last native Cornish speaker
Paul is a small hillside village about a mile south of Mousehole in west Cornwall. The Church of St Pol de Leon contains a monument to Dolly Pentreath, who died in 1777 and is traditionally regarded as the last native speaker of the Cornish language.
The village sits above the fishing village of Mousehole, with views across Mount’s Bay. Mousehole harbour, about a mile’s walk downhill, has galleries, a handful of restaurants, and the famous Christmas lights display each December. Penzance is about 3 miles to the east. The South West Coast Path passes along the coast below the village, connecting Mousehole to Lamorna Cove to the south.
