Heritage Cottage is a detached three-bedroom property in a small hamlet near Charlestown, sleeping six. The open-plan kitchen, dining room and lounge occupy a single vaulted space with oak flooring - a three-sided wood burner sits in the middle and a Heritage oil-fired range cooker anchors the kitchen end. The dining table seats eight. Two bedrooms have en-suite showers; the king-size room has its own TV. The third is a twin. Weekly rates start from GBP598; 21 reviews average 4.96 stars.

The second bedroom is a double zip-and-link that can be configured as a 2'6" twin on request. Outside, the south-facing enclosed garden has a BBQ, lawn and patio furniture stored in a barn. The barn also takes bicycles. Views from the garden extend to Helman Tor on the horizon.

Charlestown harbour - a Georgian port with a resident tall-ship fleet and the filming location for the TV series Poldark - is a short drive south. Carlyon Bay beach is 10 kilometres away. The Eden Project is in the same direction; Lanhydrock House (National Trust), which has woodland cycle routes through its grounds, is accessible to the north-west. Fowey and Looe are reachable to the south.

Best for families or groups of six who want a central mid-Cornwall base with access to both coast and countryside. Not dog-friendly.
