Helford Passage Beach is 4km south - a small, sheltered beach on the north bank of the Helford River with a ferry crossing to Helford village on the far side. The wooded creeks around the Helford are navigable by kayak, with hire available locally in season. Trebah Garden is a short drive from the cottage, a 26-acre sub-tropical valley garden running down to a private beach on the river. Glendurgan, another National Trust garden, is close by.

Falmouth town is around 20 minutes by car north, with a range of restaurants, galleries, and the National Maritime Museum. The Lizard is accessible south from St Martin, with Lizard Point - the most southerly tip of mainland Britain - around 30 minutes by road.
