15 Lusty Glaze

Four-bedroom dog-friendly family house on the eastern edge of Newquay, directly above Lusty Glaze Beach. Sleeps eight across four bedrooms with three bathrooms. On-property parking - rare in town in peak season.

The ground floor is built around a family room with smart TV and a games table, opening into a full-width conservatory. A downstairs king bedroom and adjoining wet room mean one guest can avoid the stairs - useful for grandparents. Three more bedrooms upstairs: a king with balcony overlooking Newquay Bay, a second king with en-suite, and a twin with sea views.

Lusty Glaze Beach is 133 steps down the cliff (worth flagging if anyone in your group can't manage stairs - no alternative route this side). The Lusty Glaze Adventure Centre runs coasteering, paddleboarding, and a climbing wall on the cliff face. Sundowner sessions with live music run weekend evenings late May through September. Beach bar and restaurant year-round.

A few minutes' walk gets you Tolcarne (sheltered, bodyboarders) or Whipsiderry (low-tide caves, year-round dogs). Porth Beach (1.4km) has the best rockpools and a footbridge to a tidal island. Fistral and the surf scene is a 25-minute cliff walk or 10 minutes by car. Trerice Manor (Tudor-era National Trust house) is 3 miles inland; the Eden Project a 30-minute drive.

Best for: family groups wanting a beach holiday with kids and a dog, away from Newquay's nightlife. Less good for: anyone who can't manage the 133 steps daily, or surfers chasing consistent waves (Fistral is the spot, not Lusty Glaze). Books up by February for August.
