Rock sits on the Camel Estuary directly opposite Padstow, connected by a seasonal foot ferry. It has a reputation as one of Cornwall’s most upmarket villages - sometimes called “Chelsea-on-Sea” - but its appeal goes beyond that. The estuary setting, sheltered beaches, and world-class sailing make it genuinely special.
Why Rock
- The Camel Estuary - sheltered waters perfect for sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding
- Rock Beach - wide, sandy, and calm - ideal for families with young children
- Padstow access - the foot ferry crosses in minutes, giving you access to Rick Stein’s restaurants and the harbour
- The Camel Trail - flat, traffic-free cycling and walking trail along the old railway line to Bodmin
- Daymer Bay - beautiful beach just around the headland, less crowded than Rock itself
Accommodation in Rock
Rock’s accommodation skews towards quality. You’ll find boutique hotels, luxury self-catering homes, and well-appointed B&Bs. Prices are generally higher than other parts of Cornwall, reflecting the village’s desirability - but the setting justifies it.
Getting there
Rock has limited road access and parking can be tight in summer. Many visitors park in Padstow and take the ferry across. If you’re staying in Rock itself, most accommodations provide parking.
