Lighthouses in lizard

Historic lighthouse at the most southerly point of mainland Britain, operated by Trinity House since 1752. Heritage centre currently closed to visitors.

Lizard Lighthouse stands at the most southerly point of mainland Britain, its twin white towers a landmark visible from miles along the coast. First lit in 1619 and rebuilt in its current form by Trinity House in 1752, it has guided ships past one of the most dangerous stretches of the English Channel for over 400 years.

The heritage centre, which housed exhibits on shipwrecks, fog signals, and lighthouse technology, is currently closed to the public. The lighthouse itself remains operational and the clifftop setting offers panoramic views across the Channel. The coast path passes directly by, connecting to Kynance Cove to the west and Church Cove to the east.
