St Erth

Railway junction village for the St Ives branch line

St Erth is a village at the head of the Hayle Estuary in west Cornwall. The village is best known for its railway station, where the scenic branch line to St Ives diverges from the main line to Penzance. Many visitors to St Ives park at St Erth and take the branch line, which runs along the coast past Carbis Bay.

The 14th-century bridge across the River Hayle was historically the main crossing point on the road to Penzance. Hayle, with its 3-mile beach, shops, and restaurants, is about a mile north-west. St Ives is about 4 miles by rail. The village provides a quieter base than either town while being well connected by road and rail.
