Hellescott

North Cornwall hamlet on the edge of Bodmin Moor near Camelford

Hellescott is a small hamlet in north Cornwall, in the upper Camel valley area near Camelford. It sits in the farmland between Bodmin Moor to the east and the coast road to the west. Camelford, the nearest small town with shops and services, is about 2-3 miles south. The hamlet is in the parish of Lanteglos-by-Camelford (distinct from the Lanteglos near Fowey) and consists of farms and cottages scattered across the agricultural land.

The northern edge of Bodmin Moor - with Brown Willy and Rough Tor accessible by foot - is within 4 miles to the south-east. The Camel River, in its upper reaches here, provides some riverside walking. Boscastle on the north coast is about 8 miles west, and the coast at Trebarwith Strand and Tintagel is about 7 miles north-west.

Camelford is the local hub for services, and Launceston is about 15 miles east via the A395. Holiday accommodation near Hellescott is in farm buildings and rural cottages, used as a quiet base for Bodmin Moor walking and north Cornwall coast day trips. St Clether Holy Well, a restored medieval well chapel about 3 miles east, is a notable heritage site with a slate-roofed baptistry fed by a natural spring. Winter visitors find the moorland walks around Rough Tor particularly rewarding when the bracken dies back and visibility extends for miles.
