Crantock Beach is 1.1km, reached via a short walk across the estuary footbridge. Both beaches face northwest and pick up the same groundswells. Towan Beach, in the town centre, is 1.7km.

The Gannel estuary adds a tidal dimension that distinguishes this part of Newquay from the busier town-centre streets. In summer the river can be crossed by foot at low tide; at high tide the footbridge is the route. The area has cafes and a pub close by.
