Set on the St Mellion Estate in south-east Cornwall, Tamarisk 39 gives a small family access to a full health club without paying resort prices per head. The main super-king bedroom sleeps two adults, the separate bunk room handles two children, and the estate health club - three pools, spa, sauna, steam room and gym - is included in the rental. Saltash is 6 miles east for supermarkets.

The cottage layout is compact and functional: open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining room with patio doors opening to a private garden with BBQ. Kitchen equipment runs to electric oven, hob, dishwasher and washing machine. The main bedroom can be reconfigured as twin beds on request at booking. One dog is welcome (max 1). Off-road parking for two cars.

Cotehele, the National Trust's Tudor manor and working quay, sits 4 miles east on the Tamar. Plymouth is 12 miles via the Tamar Bridge - useful for larger supermarkets and rail connections. Whitsand Bay is the nearest surfing beach at 14km; Looe is 15.5 miles south for harbour fish restaurants. The Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course on the Estate is open to residents.

Best for a couple with two children who want structured activities - pools, spa, golf - alongside walking country. Less suited to two adults sharing who need flexible sleeping arrangements, or anyone wanting sea views or a coastal setting.
