Two patios, one at the front and one at the back of the building, offer a choice of outdoor seating in sun and shade as the hours pass.
Dog-friendly cottage in Porthcurno valley, 200m from award-winning beach near the Minack Theatre. Access South West Coast Path to Land's End and Penzance.
The pretty Porthcurno Valley is the location for a fine collection of properties, a paradise-like beach and two world-renowned sites. On the cliff top where countryside and coast meet, the stunning Minack Theatre hosts live performances beneath the stars, while the beach below is considered one of the best in the world thanks to its soft white sands and crystal-clear waters. It was here, in the late 1800s, that the first international telegraph cable was brought ashore here, connecting Britain to India and, later, other parts of the Empire – pioneering work that’s celebrated at the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum. The South West Coast Path links the village to other iconic landmarks, including Land’s End to the west and Penzance to the east; here, Jubilee Pool is the UK’s largest Art Deco saltwater lido and the busy harbour is where passenger ferries depart for the Isles of Scilly.
Telegraph operation ceased at Porthcurno in 1970, a century after it had started, but there are many reminders of the village’s role in world communications and this terraced cottage is part of what was once the Cable and Wireless training college. Today it offers elegant accommodation for six, with the highest standards of comfort and convenience and a cool coastal vibe throughout. Traditional dining furniture and additional bench-style seating complement the contemporary-country styling of the kitchen in an open-plan space that’s full of natural light. Double doors lead into a warm and welcoming lounge where a selection of sofas will be the setting for good conversation, activity planning and TV time. A cloakroom completes the ground floor layout. On the first floor, you’ll find a shower room and three peaceful bedrooms – two with a king-size bed, one with twin beds, and all with wardrobes and drawers so you can settle in properly. For additional privacy and convenience, one of the king-size bedrooms also has its own en-suite bathroom.
Two patios, one at the front and one at the back of the building, offer a choice of outdoor seating in sun and shade as the hours pass. If you’d prefer to be more active, why not have a game of tennis? There are shared courts just across the road!
