Lodge 23

Lodge 23 is a self-contained, single-storey lodge within the converted Whitsand Bay Fort complex on the Rame Peninsula, sleeping four across two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The former Victorian fort sits on the clifftop above the beach, with the sand roughly 300 metres from the lodge.

Inside, the all-ground-floor layout offers a kitchen with dishwasher, living space, and two bedrooms. Wi-Fi and parking are included. The fort complex has on-site facilities that set it apart from a standard holiday let.

Kingsand Beach and Cawsand Beach are 2.6 km and 2.7 km away respectively - twin villages at the south-east tip of the Rame Peninsula that are only accessible by a winding coast road, which keeps them quiet even in August. Whitsand Bay itself stretches 3 miles west of the fort. Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, 800 acres of formal gardens and deer park above the Tamar, is close by and free to enter. The Rame Peninsula is one of south Cornwall's most rewarding walking areas, with the South West Coast Path running directly past.

Best for couples or small families wanting a quiet south Cornwall base with a short walk to the beach. Less good for those needing shops on the doorstep - Kingsand and Cawsand are the nearest villages, and Plymouth is accessible by chain ferry from Torpoint.
