Fistral Beach runs north of the Pentire headland and is the most recognised surf venue in Cornwall, hosting the annual Boardmasters festival each August. Towan Beach and Newquay's harbour are 0.9km east along the coast path. Crantock Beach - dune-backed and consistently quieter than Fistral on summer weekends - is 1.3km south across the Gannel estuary.

The South West Coast Path connects north to Pentire Point and south toward Holywell Bay. A year-round surf school operates from Fistral, offering lessons and equipment hire.
