Towan Beach, the town’s central beach with its harbour, is 1.2km east. Crantock Beach - quieter, less surfy, and across the Gannel Estuary - is 1.6km. Watergate Bay is a 10-minute drive north along the coast road, with its own surf school and beach cafe.

Best for: couples who want to walk to the surf, eat out in the evenings, and keep costs lower than the sea-view apartments on Pentire. Less good for: groups (only sleeps two), or anyone who needs a garden or dog-friendly property.
