Porthpean Beach
Porthpean is a sheltered sandy cove close to St Austell on Cornwall’s south coast — a family favourite with azure water, large rock pools at low tide, and lifeguard cover in peak season.
Because of its relative shelter, the beach is perfect for swimming, tanning, and water sports like kayaking and snorkeling. Large rock pools are exposed at low tide, offering chances for exploration and the discovery of marine life. The beach is particularly well-known for its safe swimming areas, which are supervised by lifeguards throughout the busiest times of the year, guaranteeing a family-friendly and secure atmosphere for visitors.
There are walking trails close by with amazing views of the surrounding landscape and shoreline for those who prefer to stroll. In addition, Porthpean Beach offers plenty of parking, restrooms, and a café, making it easy for guests to spend the day basking in the sun and taking in Cornwall’s coastal scenery.
