Porthminster Beach
Porthminster Beach is the south-facing, calm-water beach of St Ives, sheltered from the Atlantic swell by the headland. It has a wide sweep of golden sand and views across St Ives Bay towards Godrevy Lighthouse. The beach is a great place for swimming and paddling, especially for families with small children, because it is somewhat protected. During the busiest time of year, lifeguards walk the beach to make sure everyone who enjoys the ocean is safe. In addition to being a popular spot for stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking due to the calm circumstances, Porthminster Beach also offers equipment for hire in the area.
Situated directly on the beachfront, the well-regarded Porthminster Beach Café is one of the beach’s highlights. Both locals and visitors love this award-winning restaurant because it provides delectable seafood meals that are sourced locally and have magnificent views of the harbor. The town centre of St Ives provides easy access to the beach, a short walk along the coastal path or through the narrow streets lined with galleries, shops, and cafes. For the convenience of visitors arriving by car, there is also a parking lot close by, along with restrooms and beach showers.
