Porthkidney Beach is a wide, dune-backed strand on the Lelant side of St Ives Bay, known for its golden sands, wide views across the bay to St Ives, and excellent birdwatching within the Hayle Estuary SSSI. This is a great place for people looking for a more peaceful beach experience away from the crowds because it is surrounded by sweeping sand dunes and exudes peace and quiet.

Porthkidney Beach’s gently sloping sands offer plenty of area for beach games, picnics, and leisurely strolls down the shoreline. The beach’s pristine waters are ideal for swimming and canoeing. The beach stretches out during low tide, exposing vast sandbanks and providing the perfect setting for discovering rock pools brimming with marine life.

The place is also popular with wildlife enthusiasts, as it forms part of the Hayle Estuary and Carrack Gladden Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), home to a diverse range of bird species, including waders, seabirds, and wintering wildfowl. Birdwatchers can often spot oystercatchers, curlews, and even the occasional osprey along the shoreline. The beach is easily accessible via the South West Coast Path, which runs along the coastline, offering spectacular views of St Ives Bay and the surrounding countryside. Facilities at Porthkidney Beach are limited, but there is a small car park nearby, as well as toilets and a café during the peak season.
