Lantic Bay
Near the villages of Polruan and Fowey, on Cornwall’s south coast in England, lies a beautiful and remote beach called Lantic Bay. Lantic Bay is known for its clear water, dramatic enclosing cliffs, and the effort required to reach it — a steep 20–30 minute walk from the National Trust car park keeps visitor numbers low. Set between Polruan and Fowey, its natural and unspoiled character is preserved by the absence of road access and facilities.
Swimming and canoeing are ideal in Lantic Bay’s serene, crystal-clear waters. All ages can enjoy this beach because of its moderate descent into the water, although due to its remote position and absence of lifeguard services, caution is suggested. The seclusion makes it well suited for a quiet picnic or simply sitting with the cliffs on either side and the sound of the sea.
It takes some work to get to Lantic Bay from the National Trust parking lot because there is a steep and occasionally slick walkway. It takes twenty to thirty minutes to walk down to the beach, so you will need strong shoes and a decent degree of fitness. Offering an alternative viewpoint of the coastline and an opportunity to discover further undiscovered coves and beaches in the vicinity, boat tours and ferries depart from Fowey and Polruan.
Renowned for its serene and quiet ambiance, Lantic Bay offers an ideal haven from the bustle of busier tourist destinations. The beach is kept somewhat peaceful and uncrowded by the effort needed to get there.
