Blue Reef Aquarium
Family Days Out in newquay
Tropical aquarium on Newquay's Towan Promenade with an underwater walk-through tunnel, reef sharks, rescued loggerhead turtle, and over 40 marine displays.
Blue Reef Aquarium sits on Towan Promenade in Newquay, right above the town’s main beach. The centrepiece is a 250,000-litre tropical ocean tank with a walk-through underwater tunnel that puts you face to face with black tip reef sharks and thousands of tropical reef fish. The tank is also home to Omiros, a rescued loggerhead sea turtle who has become one of the aquarium’s most popular residents.
Across more than 40 naturally themed displays, the aquarium covers marine habitats from local Cornish rock pools to Mediterranean seagrass beds and tropical coral reefs. Seahorses, puffer fish, moray eels, blue lobsters, and living corals are all on show. A dedicated nursery area houses baby clownfish, seahorses, and other species bred through Blue Reef’s captive breeding programme, which has successfully produced sharks, rays, pipefish, and cuttlefish.
Regular talks and feeding sessions run throughout the day, giving visitors the chance to learn about conservation and marine biology from the aquarium’s team. The aquarium is fully indoors, making it a reliable option on rainy days. The nearest town centre car park is Manor Road Car Park (use sat nav postcode TR7 1JQ).
